The University of Amsterdam, also known as Universiteit van Amsterdam, is a public educational institute located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Established on January 1, 1632, the university specializes in education, higher education, and university research.
The University of Amsterdam is accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands. It is also affiliated with the European University Association and the League of European Research Universities.
The university has ownership of the Oost-Indisch Huis and is the founder of Amsterdam University Press Affiliate It has a subsidiary, the Duisenberg School of Finance, and has spun out two companies: Scyfer B.V. and Kepler Vision Technologies.
