Plot

...And over the peaks of the Caucasus The exile of paradise flew by: Under it, Kazbek is like a facet of a diamond, Eternal snows shone... M. Y. Lermontov

The painting depicts a demon flying over the Caucasus. Snow—capped mountain peaks, a stormy river (presumably the Terek) are clearly visible against the background. The demon is dressed in a brown tunic, tied with a belt [3]. The painting is made in gloomy[1] brown tones, in an abstract style. Many details are missing or poorly drawn, which is why the author's intention is not completely clear.
