The Boring Company aims to build underground transportation network to address road congestion. It is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company. It uses Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) in digging tunnels.
The Hawthorne City Council approved the company's plan to build the first Hyperloop tunnel in the city. It had constructed a shaft and entrance at the old parking lot of SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California, Los Angeles. It targets to build a tunnel from Hawthorne extending to the Los Angeles International Airport.
It has also permitted to build an electric-sled dual tunnel in Baltimore , Maryland to Washington DC. Its total length is 35 miles, from Penn Station in Baltimore to Washington Union Station. It is bidding to build high-speed rail transit system of Chicago, from downtown Chicago to the O’Hare Airport.
Elon Musk founded the Boring Company in December 2016 in Hawthorne, California.
