Stellan Skarsgård is a Swedish theater and film actor. Skarsgård was born on June 13, 1951 in Gothenburg, Sweden. One of the most recognizable Swedish actors of our time. He starred in such films as Breaking the Waves, Dancing in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia, Nymphomaniac, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Thor, The Avengers, The Girl with the Tattoo dragon" and others. To date, he has starred in more than 120 films and TV shows.
Skarsgård rose to prominence at a young age with roles on national television. In the period 1972-1988 he played on the stage of the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm. He has been acting in films since 1982. For film works in the 1980s, he was awarded the Swedish National Film Award and the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. In total, he was nominated eleven times for various cinematic awards, five of which he received.
He became famous in Hollywood after his role in Phil Kaufman's The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988). Played prominent roles in five films by Lars von Trier: Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac.
To date, he has appeared in more than 120 films and television series.
From 1975 to 2007, Skarsgård was married to physician Myu Günther, with whom he has six children: Alexander (b. 1976), Gustaf (b. 1980), Sam (b. 1982), Bill (b. 1990), Eya (born 1992) and Walter (born 1995).
Since 2009, he has been married to Megan Everett, with whom he has two sons, Ossian (b. 2009) and Kolbjorn (b. 2012)
Lives in his native Sweden, as "taxes are higher there, no one goes hungry, good health care and free education in schools and universities"
