Sam Treiman (born 27 May 1925, Chicago)(318867)(10934951) was an American physicist who specialized in theoretical particle physics. He received his education at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, where he was supervised by renowned physicist Enrico Fermi. Treiman passed away in New York City on 30 November 1999.
Treiman is well known for his contributions to the field of physics, including the Goldberger–Treiman relation, the Callan–Treiman relation, and coining the term "Standard Model". He advised several talented doctoral students, such as Steven Weinberg, Stephen L. Adler, Curtis Callan, and Paul B. Kantor. Treiman also had a child named Rebecca Treiman.
