The overall goal of this proposed program (through Phase III) is to develop an innovative Fuel Property Monitor (FPM) capable of providing a final fuel quality check of jet and diesel fuels at the point-of-use as either a stand-alone analyzer or as part of the Petroleum Expeditionary Analyzer Kit. Analysis will include identifying aviation gasoline, diesel or jet fuels and predicting their performance properties: aromatics, cetane index, density, distillation values (10, 90% and 100%), freeze point, FSII, and viscosity (-20 and 40 C). During the Phase I program the best components were determined to perform these measurements and a prototype was designed, and 4 were built during a Phase III transition program. During the Phase II program 10 FPMs were built that operate from -25 to 135 F, and fuel property models and model transfer methods were successfully developed and performed in accordance with ASTM D6708-13, ASTM E1655-05, and ASTM D6300. The overall goal of this proposed Sequential Phase II program is to upgrade the 10 Phase II FPMs for 1) field operation with enhanced performance, and 2) develop wireless communication for cloud computing.
