Polygon Zero is a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum powered by Plonky2, a recursive SNARK, which according to Polygon is the world’s fastest zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) system, capable of generating ZK proofs in 170 milliseconds on a commodity laptop. Plonky2 supports recursive proof generation, allowing infrastructures to scale horizontally. As a result, the protocol's throughput is not limited by the weakest nodes on the network, but solely by the total compute available. Polygon Zero offers the following features:

  • Stateless validators can store approx. 5 bits per active account
  • Proof size only 45kb in size-optimized mode
  • Capability to send transactions off-chain, and proof to Ethereum
  • Compatibility with the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM)
  • Horizontal scaling enabled by Plonky2
  • A composable zkEVM that scales with the total compute capacity available on the network
