Mycelia is a nonprofit, blockchain-based, research and development music platform founded in 2015 by musician and singer Imogen Heap. It is designed for musical artists to have more control over their music and profits.

Goals

Mycelia was founded with the purpose of being a more ethical music company by ensuring all artists are paid fairly and fully acknowledged—setting new ethical and technical standards for the industry and unlocking new potential for musical artists by creating a new commercial marketplace.

Projects
Life of a Song (LOAS)

Life of a Song is a project created by Heap, designed to research and analyze the data behind songs, specifically focusing on her own song "Hide and Seek." The ultimate goal of LOAS is to understand how the music industry works and evolves over time by analyzing data for individual songs. It breaks down the data into three portions: biography, revenue, and breakdown. The biography of a song focuses on the story behind the song, technological changes since the song's release, artist remixes of the song, the people behind the creation of the song, and where the song has been used and performed. The revenue portion focuses on the analysis of the artist's various income streams and where they come from. The breakdown focuses on copyright law, ownership of the song, licensing, contracts, and information on use cases.

Creative Passport

Creative Passport is a digital, verified ID for musical artists, where they can manage information about themselves and various aspects of their works to share with others. All profits generated by artists's Creative Passports go directly to the music creators.

Mycelia Tour

From 2018 to 2019, Heap led the Mycelia Tour, appearing in forty cities around the world in the regions of Europe, North America, South Africa, and Asia Pacific. The tour was intended to spread publicity about Creative Passport. It consisted of concerts, conference talks, forums, family workshops, and interactive exhibitions. The tour began in Stockholm on September 3, 2018.It concluded on November 15, 2019 in London.
