Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007) was an Italian film director, writer, screenwriter, film producer, poet, painter, and author. Born in Ferrara, Italy, Antonioni was educated at the University of Bologna and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. He is known for his films in the genres of modernism and poetry.

Some of his best-known works include "trilogy on modernity and its discontents," which consists of L'Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), and L'Eclisse (1962), as well as the English-language films Blowup (1966) and The Passenger (1975). Antonioni directed numerous other films, such as Story of a Love Affair, The Lady Without Camelias, Il Grido, The Vanquished, Chung Kuo, Cina, Red Desert, The Mystery of Oberwald, Identification of a Woman, and Beyond the Clouds.

Throughout his career, Michelangelo Antonioni received various awards, including Cannes Film Festival, Honorary Academy Award, Bodil Awards, Berlin International Film Festival, Palme d'Or, European Film Awards, Giffoni Film Festival, Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists, Locarno International Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, and Venice Film Festival awards, among others.

In addition to his filmmaking career, Antonioni was the partner of actress Monica Vitti. He passed away on July 30, 2007, in Rome, Italy.
