Mary McLeod Bethune

Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955) was an American journalist, politician, teacher, writer, and human rights activist. She was born as Mary McLeod in Mayesville, South Carolina, and was a citizen of the United States. Bethune passed away in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bethune received her education at institutions like Barber-Scotia College, Moody Bible Institute, and Johnson C. Smith University. She went on to found the National Council of Negro Women, an organization aimed at improving the opportunities and quality of life for African-American women.
