Laurent Schwartz

Laurent Schwartz (March 5, 1915 – July 4, 2002) was a French mathematician. He was born and died in Paris. Schwartz was a prominent mathematician, best known for winning the prestigious Fields Medal in 1950.

Schwartz was a doctoral advisor to several accomplished mathematicians, including Alexander Grothendieck, who was one of his most famous students. He had many other notable doctoral students such as Jacques-Louis Lions, Bernard Malgrange, and Maurice Audin. Laurent Schwartz's own doctoral advisor was Georges Valiron.

Throughout his career, Schwartz made significant contributions to various fields in mathematics, earning him recognition through the Fields Medal and the mentorship of prominent mathematical scholars.
