Juan Velasco Alvarado (born June 16, 1910 in Piura; died December 24, 1977 in Lima) was a Peruvian politician and officer of the armed forces[(1536202)#occupation]. He held citizenship of Peru and was educated at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation. Velasco Alvarado is best known as the founder of Petroperú, a state-owned petroleum company in Peru. As an individual, he is an instance of a person.
