John L. Hennessy

John L. Hennessy, born on September 22, 1952, is a computer scientist, engineer, and businessperson from the United States. He was born in Huntington, New York and received his education at Stony Brook University and Villanova University.

Hennessy is the founder of MIPS Technologies, a semiconductor company based in the United States. Throughout his career, he has mentored numerous doctoral students, including Lawrence Paulson, Anant Agarwal, Josep Torrellas, Jeffrey Gibson, Helen Davis, and Andrew Erlichson .

In recognition of his contributions to the field, Hennessy was awarded the 2017 Turing Award, a prestigious honor in the field of computer science.
