Joe Dante (born November 28, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, actor, editor, film producer, and television producer. He was born in Morristown, New Jersey and holds citizenship in the United States.

Dante began his career in 1968 and is known for directing a variety of film genres, including horror, comedy, fantasy, action, crime, and drama. Some of his most notable works include the films "Gremlins" (1984) and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" (1990).

Dante has directed a number of other films, such as "Twilight Zone: The Movie" (1983), "The Howling" (1981), "Innerspace" (1987), "The 'Burbs" (1989), "Burying the Ex" (2014), "Matinee" (1993), "Small Soldiers" (1998), "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" (2003), "The Hole" (2009), and "Piranha" (1978).
