Jim Farley is the CEO and president of Ford Motor Company. He formerly served as Ford's COO and as the CEO of Ford Europe. In 2022, Farley launched Drive, a podcast about cars.

Early life

Farley was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1962. He spent his early childhood years there before moving with his family to Greenwich, Connecticut. Farley attended Portsmouth Abbey School. When he was fourteen, Farley worked a summer job rebuilding car engines in southern California.

Education

Farley attended Georgetown University from 1981 to 1985 and earned a bachelor's degree in economics. He attended University of California, Los Angeles, from 1985 to 1989 and earned a master of business administration degree.

Career
Toyota

After graduating university, Farley received job offers from multiple automotive companies, one of which was Toyota. Farley began working for Toyota and helped launch the company's new luxury car brand, Lexus. He served as the group vice president and general manager of the Lexus division, as well as the group vice president of the Toyota division. Farley later led the launch of the Toyota Scion.

Ford

Farley joined Ford Motor Company in 2007. He first worked as the vice president of marketing and communication, a position that was created especially for him. He has since served multiple roles at the company, including as president of global markets, president and executive vice president of Ford Europe, and president of new businesses, technology, and strategy. In 2015, Farley became CEO of Ford Europe and led operations to new records of profitability and margins, as well as increased sales. Farley was appointed as Ford's COO in February 2020. Eight months later, in October 2020, he was appointed president and CEO. Since his takeover as CEO, Farley has helped Ford boost its investment in electric vehicles to over $50 billion. He has also helped reinvent the Lincoln brand and readied its introduction to China.
