Jack Kirby (born August 28, 1917 in New York City) was an American comic book artist, writer, and editor, best known for his work in the superhero genre . Jack Kirby was a pioneer in the field, creating notable works such as Captain America, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Mister Miracle, Inhumans, Kamandi, Thor (Marvel Comics), and Silver Surfer . Jack Kirby had various occupations in his career, including screenwriter, animator, and storyboard artist .

Educated at Pratt Institute , Kirby was also known as Charles Nicholas, Curt Davis, Jack Curtiss, and Lance Kirby in his early career . He primarily worked in the genres of science fiction and superhero comics .

Kirby co-created several iconic Marvel characters including Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Thor (Marvel Comics), and Thena . He was also the creator of other Marvel characters such as Hulk, Magneto, Loki, Red Skull, and Doctor Doom .

In addition to his work for Marvel, Jack Kirby was the founder of the Celestials and the creator of numerous other characters including Black Bolt, Agatha Harkness, Alicia Grimm, Enchantress (Marvel Comics), Annihilus, Doctor Druid, Iron Man, The General, Arishem the Judge, and Arnim Zola .

Jack Kirby also served as an editor for Hulk , and created characters such as Attuma, Awesome Andy, Balder the Brave, The Thing, The Wizard, Blastaar, and Bolivar Trask . Some of his notable works have been adapted into video games and films, like the Avengers video game and the Eternals film .

Jack Kirby passed away on February 6, 1994, in Thousand Oaks, California .
