Who is Harry Kane?

Harry Edward Kane is an English professional footballer who presently plays for the English national football team and the ‘Premier League’ club ‘Tottenham Hotspur,’ as a striker. He began his football career with ‘Ridgeway Rovers’ and joined the ‘Arsenal’ youth academy thereafter. He had a stint with ‘Ridgeway Rovers’ again, after which he played for the ‘Watford’ academy, before joining the ‘Tottenham Hotspur’ academy. His first professional contract with ‘Tottenham Hotspur’ was finalized in July 2010, and his first-team debut for the club was in a ‘UEFA Europa League’ match in August 2011. ‘Tottenham’ loaned him to ‘Leyton Orient,’ ‘Millwall,’ ‘Leicester City,’ and ‘Norwich City,’ before he could make a mark for himself in the first-team of the club. Kane has achieved several feats with the club, including finishing as the top scorer of the 2015–2016 and the 2016–17 seasons of the ‘Premier League,’ being named the ‘Premier League Player of the Month’ six times, being included in the ‘PFA Team of the Year’ thrice, receiving the ‘Premier League Golden Boot’ twice, and becoming the ‘PFA Young Player of the Year’ once. He began representing England at the ‘Under-17’ level and moved on to make his senior international debut in a ‘UEFA Euro 2016’ qualifying match in March 2015.

Career

He started his career by playing for ‘Ridgeway Rovers,’ a local club, in 1999, and joined the youth academy of ‘Arsenal’ in 2001. After being released, following a season, he re-joined ‘Ridgeway Rovers’ in 2002. Meanwhile, he had an unsuccessful trial with ‘Tottenham Hotspur.’

He joined the academy of ‘Watford’ in 2004, for a trial of four to six weeks and then got an opportunity to play for ‘Tottenham.’

He scored three goals during the 2008–2009 season, while playing in the ‘Bellinzona’ tournament in Switzerland and in the ‘Copa Chivas’ tournament in Mexico as part of the ‘Tottenham Under-16’ team. He signed a scholarship contract with the club in July 2009.

In July 2010, he signed his first professional contract with ‘Tottenham.’ He was loaned to ‘Leyton Orient’ on January 7, 2011, and played with the club till the end of the 2010–2011 season. Kane’s first appearance for ‘Tottenham’ was in a match against ‘Hearts’ in their second leg of the ‘UEFA Europa League’ qualification round, held on August 25, 2011. He scored his first goal for the club on December 15 that year, when ‘Tottenham’ clinched a 4–0 win over ‘Shamrock Rovers.’

From January 1, 2012, till the end of the 2011–2012 season, he was loaned to ‘Championship’ club ‘Millwall.’ His stint with the club saw him scoring nine goals in 27 matches. He was named the ‘Millwall Young Player of the Year’ that season.

He scored a hat-trick for ‘Tottenham’ on August 10, 2012, in a 6–0 win against ‘Southend United.’ His ‘Premier League’ debut with the club was on August 18 that year, against ‘Newcastle United.’

He was again loaned to the ‘Premier League’ team ‘Norwich City,’ which he joined on August 31, 2012. Although he was on a one-season loan at ‘Norwich City,’ he was recalled by ‘Tottenham’ on February 1, 2013, to enhance their attacking options. However, after 20 days, he joined ‘Leicester City’ on loan.

His first ‘Premier League’ match for ‘Tottenham’ was on April 7, 2014, when the club won 5–1 over ‘Sunderland.’ The match marked his first ‘Premier League’ goal.

He garnered his first professional hat-trick for ‘Tottenham,’ on October 23, 2014, during the group stage of the ‘UEFA Europa League.’ The club won 5–1 over ‘Asteras Tripoli.’ As goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was sent off the field for a foul, Kane played in goal for the last three minutes of the match.

On January 28, 2015, Kane set up the late equalizer goal of Christian Eriksen in a match against ‘Sheffield United’ that led ‘Tottenham’ to the 2015 ‘Football League Cup’ finals on March 1. However, the tournament was won by ‘Chelsea.’

Meanwhile, his fine performances earned him the award of the ‘Premier League Player of the Month’ in January 2015, a recognition he garnered five more times, in February 2015, March 2016, February 2017, September 2017, and December 2017.

He signed a fresh five-and-a-half-year contract with ‘Tottenham’ on February 2, 2015. On February 7 that year, he netted both the goals in ‘Tottenham’s 2–1 “North London derby” victory against ‘Arsenal.’

He scored his first ‘Premier League’ hat-trick in March 2015, against ‘Leicester City.’ With this, he scored 19 league goals in the 2014–2015 season, thus becoming the top goal-scorer of the division.

He added another feather in his cap when he captained ‘Tottenham’ for the first time on April 5, 2015, in a match against ‘Burnley’ at ‘Turf Moor.’ The match resulted in a 0–0 draw. Later that month, he was enlisted in the ‘PFA Team of the Year’ for the 2014–2015 season. This was a feat he achieved again in the 2015–2016 and the 2016–2017 seasons.

A few other notable achievements of Kane during the 2014–2015 season included being named the ‘PFA Young Player of the Year’ and the ‘Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year.’

He became ‘Tottenham’s highest goal-scorer in a single ‘Premier League’ season, after he netted his 22nd league goal of the 2015–2016 season on April 2, 2016, against ‘Liverpool.’ He won the ‘Premier League Golden Boot’ that season and in the 2016–2017 season.

He made his ‘UEFA Champions League’ debut on September 14, 2016, against ‘Monaco’ at the ‘Wembley Stadium’ and scored his first ‘Champions League’ goal on November 22 that year, against ‘Monaco’ at the ‘Stade Louis II.’ ‘Tottenham’ lost both the matches 2–1. On December 1 the same year, ‘Tottenham’ signed a fresh contract with him, thereby retaining him till 2022.

His first ‘UEFA Champions League’ hat-trick was against ‘APOEL,’ on September 26, 2017. With his power-packed performances, Kane emerged as the first player in the history of the ‘Premier League’ to have garnered six hat-tricks in a year. Netting 56 goals in the calendar year, he became the top goal-scorer of Europe in 2017, outshining many stalwarts such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He also earned the ‘England Player of the Year Award’ in 2017.

He began his international career with the English national ‘Under-17’ football team in 2010. Over the years, he has represented England as part of their ‘Under-19’ team (2010–2012), their ‘Under-20’ team (2013), and their ‘Under-21’ team (2013–2015), before making his senior debut on March 27, 2015, in a ‘UEFA Euro 2016’ qualifying match against Lithuania, where he scored too.

He captained England on June 10, 2017, in a 2018 ‘FIFA World Cup’ qualifier match against Scotland at ‘Hampden Park,’ where he also netted a goal and led England to a 2–2 draw. An added-time winning goal scored by him on October 5 that year, against Slovenia, cemented England's way to the 2018 ‘FIFA World Cup.’
