The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) was created in 1995 as a joint venture between the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the University of Neuchâtel and the City/State of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. As an independent study centre, with its headquarters in the Palais DuPeyrou, in Neuchâtel, CIES was set up toaddress the inherent issues in the complex world of sport with a focus mainly in the fields of law, sociology and economics. Through high-level academic research and teaching, CIES’ aim is to understand the complexities of sport in today’s society and improve how it is governed and managed across all sports.
