Efim Zelmanov

Efim Zelmanov is a mathematician born on September 7, 1955, in Khabarovsk. He holds citizenship in both the Soviet Union and the United States. Zelmanov completed his education at Novosibirsk State University and Saint Petersburg State University.

As a mathematician, Zelmanov is notable for his work on the Burnside problem. His achievements in this field led to his recognition with the prestigious Fields Medal in 1994. Among Zelmanov's pupils is Christopher Briggs, a doctoral student trained under his guidance.
