ESL Pro League ( before ESL ESEA Pro League ) - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is based in Europe, Asia, America and Oceania, and currently includes 24 e-sports teams and 12 regular partners each season. The ESL Pro League began with both the Electronic Sports League (ESL) and the E-Sports Entertainment Association League. (ESEA). The first season started on May 4, 2015.
History
In early November 2014, the German-based Electronic Sports League announced the creation of the ESL Pro League as the ESL European League. On April 28, 2015, ESL announced a joint venture with the North American-based E-Sports Entertainment Association League to form Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a total prize pool of $ 500,000 in its first season between the two continents. It later expanded to fourteen teams in each region and increased its prize pool to $ 1,000,000, with two seasons each year. In 2018, the ESL prize pool will increase again, forcing teams to compete for $ 1,000,000 in the final, increasing the season's prize pool by $ 250,000. In addition, the number of teams in the final increased to sixteen, with more teams from other regions besides North America and Europe participating in the final. In 2020, due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were no global finals in seasons 11 and 12, instead regional finals were held in Europe and North America. In 2021, at ESL Pro League Season 13, the organization announced a change in format: one league replaced the four regional leagues that existed before the pandemic. All 24 teams will go to Europe to participate in the league, and the 12 best teams of the regular season out of 24 teams will reach the finals, also in Europe. When the tournament was combined into one event, the prize pool was reduced to $ 750,000.
