Douglas Sirk (born Hans Detlef Sierck on April 26, 1897 in Hamburg) was a German film director best known for his work in Hollywood melodramas of the 1950s. He held citizenship in the German Empire, Weimar Republic, Denmark, and West Germany throughout his life. In addition to directing, Sirk also worked as a screenwriter and film producer. He was educated at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Sirk directed numerous films throughout his career, including "The Strange Woman", "A Scandal in Paris," "Lured," "Imitation of Life," "The Tarnished Angels," "All That Heaven Allows," and "Written on the Wind," among others. Sirk passed away in Lugano on January 14, 1987.
