Boca Foods is a vegetarian and vegan food brand, and subsidiary of the Kraft Heinz Company, that was founded in 1993 in Chicago, Illinois, and is now headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Boca makes vegetarian and vegan products that are meant to be meat alternatives for meat products such as burger patties, chicken nuggets, sausages, ground crumbles, and meat breakfast products.
Initially, Boca Foods was called Boca Burger, and was headquarters out of Chicago, Illinois. It was not until the Kraft Heinz Company acquired Boca Burger in 2000, that Boca Burger was renamed and re-branded to Boca Foods, and company headquarters were moved to Madison, Wisconsin. The year before Kraft Heinz acquired Boca Burger in 2000, Boca Burger's sales had doubled from the previous year to ~$40 million. In 2000 when Boca Burger was acquired by Kraft Heinz, the company had 145 employees, and a production facilities in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Hobbs, New Mexico. Kraft Heinz claims that it acquired Boca Burger to capitalize on a growing trend towards healthier foods.
