In 1912, Alexis Carrel was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his innovations in surgical techniques. He mentored and worked with other researchers, such as his doctoral student Serge Voronoff.

Carrel passed away on November 5, 1944, in Paris, France.
