The team spent the 2019/2020 season in the Kharlamov Division , before that the team played in the Chernyshev Division

The club was formed in 1962 as a result of the merger of the Novosibirsk teams Dynamo and Khimik. In 1964, the LDS Sibir was built for the team , which still remains the team's home arena.

The highest achievement is victory in the Chernyshev division, reaching the final of the Eastern Conference of the KHL, bronze medalist of the KHL championship in the 2014/2015 season .

History

The origin of ice hockey in Novosibirsk

The history of Novosibirsk hockey dates back to 1948 - it was then that the enthusiast and popularizer of hockey Ivan Ivanovich Tsyba, who in March 1948 attended a seminar on ice hockey technique and tactics in Moscow , brought a real Canadian stick and puck from the capital. These attributes aroused great interest among all Novosibirsk sports fans. At the end of the season, the leadership of the Novosibirsk DSO "Dynamo" decides to refuse to participate in bandy competitions and start popularizing ice hockey. Moreover, in 1946 - in the first championship of the USSR , two players whose sports career began in Novosibirsk:Oleg Tolmachev and Vsevolod Blinkov , became national champions in Dynamo Moscow .

Becoming

"Dynamo" -58, first row (sitting): Sudoplatov , Vyatkin, Polyashov, Mikhailov, Tarkhov; second row: Nagy, Kretov, Bubenets , Terlikov, Biryulintsev , Stain , Radaev, Ivlev, Aleshkovich, Burr, Zolotukhin, Schemelinsky, Bodrov.

Until 1949, ice hockey was the No. 1 winter sport in Novosibirsk, until teams participating in the national ice hockey championship began to arrive from Moscow. Unlike European cities, the winter in the capital of Siberia was early and long, there were no stadiums with artificial ice, and many elite hockey clubs began to fly to Novosibirsk for training camps, and at the same time play friendly matches with local teams that were strong in Russian hockey .

The first hockey box in Novosibirsk was built in the fall of 1948 on the banks of the Ob , at a water-ski station not far from the river station. This station belonged to the Pishchevik sports society. In February, a second hockey rink appeared - at Spartak. The first ice hockey matches at the Spartak stadium took place on December 5, 1949. In honor of Stalin's Constitution Day, a blitz tournament was held on a newly built box with the participation of four teams: Spartak, Dynamo, ODO and Pishchevik. The winners were Dynamo, who defeated the Gladiators with a score of 4:1. All these four teams in the summer of next year "signed up" in the championship tournament of the RSFSR. The debut matches in Novosibirsk took place on January 10, 1951 in almost 40-degree frost. Dynamo and Spartak met again. The blue and white this time won with a score of 6:2.

The factory hockey team "Khimik" enjoyed great favor with the director of the NZHK Anatoly Kallistov (he led the plant in 1951-56). By his order, one of the first hockey rinks was built in Novosibirsk (in the square on 25 Let Oktyabrya Street), and work with children's teams was also organized.

In the post-war period in Novosibirsk, the strongest bandy teams were ODO and Dynamo. The army team focused on football, considering bandy as a winter workout-fun. It was hard to compete with a powerful army club, and the Dynamo decided to completely switch to ice hockey. Thus, the Dynamo Novosibirsk , during these years, was the main hockey team in the city. The Dynamo players have two titles of the champion of the RSFSR (1948/1949, 1952/1953), as well as the bronze of the championship of the RSFSR (1950/1951). In addition, in the 1952/1953 season, the RSFSR Cup was won, after which the club gets the right to participate in the USSR championship among the strongest teams of masters. The debut of Dynamo Novosibirsk in the hockey elite of the USSR coincided with the opening of the ninth USSR championship, which took place on November 28, 1954 in Novosibirsk at the Spartak stadium. In the 1954/1955 debut season in the top league, Dynamo ended up in 9th place in the championship. This result was later repeated twice: in the seasons 1956/1957 and 1959/1960 , but remained unsurpassed for more than 50 years.

At this time, as part of the Moscow Dynamo and the USSR national team , a Novosibirsk pupil shone: Olympic champion 1956 , world champion 1954 , 1956 , world championship silver medalist 1955 , champion of the USSR 1954 , multiple second and third medalist of the USSR championship - Valentin Kuzin . He gave two years of his career to Dynamo Novosibirsk, and then throughout his career he played for teammates from Moscow. In addition to Kuzin, the Siberians prepared another Olympic champion - Viktor Nikiforov. Three more Dynamo hockey players were also invited to the training camp of the USSR national team: Vitaly Stain , Anatoly Biryulintsev andVyacheslav Bubenets .

The first youth hockey team in Novosibirsk was created in the 1954/1955 season, after Dynamo Novosibirsk began its performance in the USSR championship. In addition to the main roster, each "A" class team had to have a junior team. Vitaly Stain becomes the captain and leading player of the youth team, who later became the captain and then the coach of the Sibir base. In their first championship, young Novosibirskers won bronze medals of the USSR championship.

In addition to Dynamo, two more Novosibirsk teams became champions of the RSFSR: Krylya Sovetov, twice, in the 1954/1955 and 1956/1957 seasons, and Khimik in the 1955/1956 season. The Wings were able to win the championship title after the Novosibirsk clubs Dynamo and ODO merged in 1953 . The players who did not make it to the base of that team strengthened the composition of the Wings of the Soviets. The ODO army team did not play regularly in hockey championships. After silver medals in the 1951/1952 RSFSR championship and 11th place in the USSR championship among master teams in class "A" in the 1952/1953 season , the army decided to focus on football. The revival of this hockey team took place only in 1958.

The Novosibirsk hockey club SKA did not go unnoticed by the public either. In the 1961/62 season, SKA was led by Anatoly Tarasov , who had previously been fired from the post of head coach of the national team and CSKA after the USSR national team under his leadership took third place at the World Championships in the Olympic Squaw Valley in the USA (the worst result in all seven years appearances at the World Cup). And the history of Novosibirsk hockey could have changed dramatically if Anatoly Vladimirovich had not been returned to CSKA in 1962. Tarasov spent less than a year in Novosibirsk, but during this time he managed to do a lot. In 1964, the army team won the championship of the RSFSR, but the Novosibirsk team did not manage to perform in the strongest class.

The era of "Siberia"

In the early sixties, another problem arose - financial. In Dynamo, which played in the elite of Soviet hockey, the conditions were worse than, for example, in another Novosibirsk team - Khimik ( NZHK plant ), which played in the lower division. There were excellent conditions at the NZHK, and the management of the plant loved hockey. As a result, in 1962, Dynamo merged with Khimik, the new team was renamed Siberia. The post of head coach of the renewed team was entrusted to Yuri Dmitrievsky. Yury Sudoplatov becomes the first captain of Siberia . It is noteworthy that after two years of existence, the combined team began to train and perform at the new stadium "Siberia"with artificial ice. The construction of this facility became possible thanks to the head of the NZHK from 1956 to 1975 Pavel Semenovich Vlasov , who was a passionate fan of hockey. Initially, the stadium did not have a roof, and only in 1972 the open stadium was reconstructed into the closed Ice Palace of Sports "Siberia". In the future, the stadium was completed, after which in 1977 it had a capacity of 8300 spectators, which made it the second largest hockey stadium in the USSR.

Thanks to the NZHK, not only the Siberia hockey club appeared in Novosibirsk, but also a whole microdistrict called Krasnaya Gorka (later it merged into the Kalininsky district ). It was there that ice hockey began to develop rapidly. To provide the hockey club with equipment, a carpenter from the electrovacuum plant, who had experience in making sticks, was invited to the NCCP, and an experimental site for their production was even created.

Sibir played its first match in the national championship on October 31, 1962 in Riga . The rival of the team was the local "Daugava" . Novosibirsk created a sensation, defeating the Rigans with a score of 8:1. The first puck of "Siberia" was thrown by forward Viktor Kartavykh . [9] This is how Viktor Makarovich recalls his goal scored:

In "physics" we outdid the hosts, which was proved by just the first puck. One of our defenders threw so powerfully at the goal that the puck flew from the board like a bullet to the patch. All three of us rushed to finish off - I was the first to do it. The defenders of the inhabitants of Riga simply could not keep up with us, because our speed was crazy.

From the beginning of the founding of the team "Siberia" rushed between the class of the strongest and the second most powerful championship of the country. The structure of the championship has been repeatedly changed, which sometimes helped the Novosibirsk club to stay at the highest level, and sometimes, on the contrary, did not allow them to stay there for a long time. In the course of the 1975/76 season , the quite successful coach Vladimir Zolotukhin was replaced by a more authoritative one - Nikolai Epshtein , who, before arriving in Novosibirsk, worked for 23 years as head coach at the Voskresensky Khimik . Epstein failed to inculcate the defensive style of the Sunday team. Sibir went to the first league for a long time, and only after the departure of Epstein in 1978 and the arrival of Vitaly Ivanovich Stain, in the 1982/83 season, the team wins the first league championship and returns to the elite.

In Soviet times, the Novosibirsk club achieved great success in the field of junior and youth hockey. Already in the late 60s, the Novosibirsk hockey school became one of the best in the USSR. The most significant achievements of the junior and youth teams of the Siberia School are associated with the names of coaches Viktor Zvonarev (worked in 1966-95) and Vasily Basters (1966-77).

Boris Barabanov played fourteen seasons for Sibir , scoring an average of 29 goals per season. In total, the Novosibirsk scorer has 406 goals. The 17-year-old Barabanov played his first match for the team of masters of Siberia in Novokuznetsk against the local Metallurg , replacing the injured Sergei Yakovlev. In that meeting, the newcomer did not let us down - he came out and scored his first goal. Barabanov scored his 100th goal in official matches for Sibir on February 14, 1979 . The most impressive was the 1982/83 season, in which Boris scored 55 goals against opponents. Curiously, Barabanov was repeatedly invited by the clubs of the major league of the USSR, but patriotic feelings forced the striker to stay in Novosibirsk.

In 1992, Sibir did not enter the MHL championship and played in the FHR championship until 1994 . Only in the 1994/1995 season, after the expansion of the MHL, the team enters the elite division, where it plays until the 1997/1998 season inclusive.

Siberia returned to the top division of the Russian Championship in the 2002/2003 season .

Since the 2008-2009 season, he has been playing in the Continental Hockey League .

New team in new league (since 2008)

2008-2009

After the frankly disastrous 2007/2008 season , in which Sibir took only the penultimate place in the overall championship table, the leadership of the Novosibirsk club decided to make drastic changes. The famous Russian hockey player Andrey Khomutov becomes the new head coach. The leaders of last season are leaving the club.

The coaching staff decided to focus on legionnaires, so the team included forwards Ivan Chernik and Rostyslav Pawlikovsky, as well as goalkeeper Thomas Lawson. However, despite the high hopes that were placed on them, only Lawson was able to prove himself, becoming a true favorite of the Novosibirsk public.

The management remained dissatisfied with the results and the quality of the game of the Novosibirsk team. In January, Khomutov's place was taken by Vladimir Semyonov, whose arrival caused a lot of criticism from the fans of Siberia. Despite this, the team from Novosibirsk began to demonstrate a more stable game at the end of the regular season, but Semyonov's wards failed to get into the playoffs.

One of the best seasons in his career was spent by Sibir forward Evgeny Lapin, becoming the team's top scorer. He also became the top scorer, scoring 22 goals in 55 games. The captain of Novosibirsk - Dmitry Yushkevich , being a defender, became the 4th player in terms of performance in the team, gaining 26 points in 56 matches.

2009-2010

The main task in the off-season for Sibir was to keep the main backbone of the team. But, despite this, the team started the new season in a completely different guise. As expected, Pavlikovsky and Chernik left the team , their places were taken by ex-strikers of the Ufa “Salavat Yulaev” - Michal Mikeska and Leosh Cermak . Alexander Boikov becomes the new captain .

After an unsuccessful start, Vladimir Semyonov retires. As it seemed, for a while, the post of acting head coach was taken by Andrey Tarasenko , who had previously worked as an assistant head coach in the Novosibirsk club. However, "Siberia" gives a brilliant segment, after which the management decides to rid Tarasenko of the prefix "I. O.". December was the most difficult for Sibir, the team couldn't find their game and lost many important points. In the end, everything was decided on the last day of the regular season. To get into the playoffs, Siberia had to beat away Vityaz , but the team unexpectedly lost with a score of 2:5. The Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist took advantage of this, who did not miss his chance by winning the last game of the regular season. "Siberia" is in 9th place in the conference. For the third year in a row, Novosibirsk remains without knockout games.

Team captain - Alexander Boykov becomes the top scorer, chalking up 37 points. Yuri Klyuchnikov showed his best side , who, after the departure of Alexander Fomichev and Thomas Lawson, became the main goalkeeper of the club at the end of the regular season.

2010-2011

Andrey Tarasenko's assistant on the coaching bridge is the captain of "Siberia" of the 2008/2009 season - Dmitry Yushkevich.

Selection this season was reduced to the purchase of Scandinavian players. Thus, the team ended up with defenders - Alexander Hellstrom, Ilkka Heikkinen, forwards - Jonas Enlund and Ville Nieminen, as well as one of the leading goalkeepers of the Swedish national team - Stefan Liv .

From the very beginning of the championship "Siberia" was fixed in the leading group. However, after the new year, there was a certain decline, which, however, did not prevent the Novosibirsk club from confidently gaining a foothold in the playoff zone. According to the results of the regular season, Andrey Tarasenko's squad takes the 6th position, and, as it turns out later, falls on the Gagarin Cup winner - Salavat Yulaev from Ufa.

Despite a good play in the majority, a stable game in defense and amazing performances of the team's goalkeeper, Sibir failed to please the Novosibirsk public with at least one victory in the series.

The top scorer was rookie Igor Mirnov , who scored 40 points in 53 games. The young guard of the Novosibirsk club in the person of Jonas Enlund and Vladimir Tarasenko , who were injured during the season, could not fully show themselves . Defenders have the best record - 22 points each, earned by Georgy Puyats and Ilkka Heikkinen

2011-2012

Several leaders leave the team. The management failed to reach an agreement with the main goalkeeper of Siberia last season. Stefan Liv goes to Yaroslavl . The club was least interested in the services of the best strikers in the past season - Ville Nieminen and Igor Mirnov. With Nieminen, the contract was not renewed, and Mirnov was put up for a waiver draft. Of the Scandinavian players in the team, only Jonas Enlund continues to arrive. Contracts with defenders - Illka Heikinen and Alexander Hellstrom terminated. After a two-year “captainship”, Alexander Boikov moved to Cherepovets.

Austrian Bernd Brückler , who has now played two seasons in the ranks of the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo, is invited to play the role of the main goalkeeper. To the tandem played in the face of Vladimir Tarasenko and Jonas Enlund, the club acquires Finnish forward Jori Lechter. The "shock" trio shone in the pre-season tournaments, and later in the regular season. However, in the end, the Novosibirsk team achieved success in attack only thanks to the actions of this link. The players of "Siberia" last year's sample dropped sharply performance. The team was plagued by injuries. Throughout the season, there was a clear instability in the results. For this reason, the management of Siberia decided to dismiss Andrey Tarasenko. Dmitry Yushkevich becomes the helmsman of Novosibirsk .

There are no fundamental changes. At the last stage of the championship, due to Siberia not getting into the playoffs, the management decides to sell the team leaders in order to improve their financial situation for the next championship. Among the sold-out hockey players were: Vladimir Tarasenko, Georgy Puyats, Alexander Kutuzov , Vyacheslav Belov , while the rights to Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Kutuzov were to be transferred to Sibir immediately after the end of the playoffs. The Novosibirsk team finishes the championship in 11th place in the conference and, as expected, does not qualify for the elimination games.

Vladimir Tarasenko became the team's top scorer. He has 38 (18+20) points in 39 matches. In the defensive line, Vyacheslav Belov has the best indicator - 17 (6 + 11) points. The “shock” trio, despite the injury of Yori Lechter, scores exactly 100 points in the “goal + pass” system.
