Rompetrol was established in 1974 as the international operator of the Romanian oil industry.

The company was privatized in 1993 through a Management and Employee Buyout (MEBO), and turnover subsequently reduced to below $6 million by 1998. In 1998, Rompetrol was purchased by a local investor group led by Dinu Patriciu, thus increasing company capital and contributing into a substantial turnover growth. In 1999, the company's new holding was established as The Rompetrol Group N.V.(‘TRG’) in the Netherlands. The new group made its first major acquisition: Vega refinery - located in Ploieşti - which doubled its revenues in the first nine months after takeover.

In 2000, Rompetrol took over Petros (renamed Rompetrol Well Services), then Romania's principal oilfield operator. The Group's largest acquisition, Petromidia S.A., was also Romania's largest and most sophisticated oil refinery. Rompetrol committed itself to a sustained modernization process to make Petromidia a state-of-the-art facility in Eastern and Central Europe. In 2001, Rompetrol created Rominserv S.A., Romania's first Engineering Procurement Construction & Maintenance (EPCM) company focused on the oil industry. In 2002, the Petromedia refinery resumed its petrochemicals production under the management of the newly-founded Rompetrol Petrochemicals.

In 2002, Rompetrol opened subsidiaries in neighboring Moldova (Rompetrol Moldova) and Bulgaria (Rompetrol Bulgaria). The following year, in Romania, Rompetrol started to expand its gas station network. As part of its strategy, the company unified the quality standards for its entire gas station network. To expand its network and make the process of distributing fuel easier, Rompetrol created a network of oil depots in various regions of the country (Arad, Craiova, Șimleu Silvaniei, Zarnesti, Vatra-Dornei, Constanta, Mogosoaia). In 2004, Rompetrol Rafinare S.A. was listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). In 2005, Rompetrol started operations in Georgia and announced the acquisition of 100% in the French company Dyneff S.A. In 2006, Rompetrol opened a subsidiary in Ukraine (Rompetrol Ukraine).

In August 2007, the Kazakh company KazMunayGas acquired 75% of the Rompetrol shares from Rompetrol Holding Switzerland,[1] and the remaining 25% stake in Rompetrol in 2009. In 2008, Rompetrol and KazMunayGas launched Media Marine Terminal for crude oil in the Media Black Sea port. In August 2009, Rompetrol opened its first two fuel stations on the A2 motorway in Romania, designed as the new premium brand of the group[2]

In 2009, the company decided to outsource its IT needs but contracted only a single outsourcer with a multimillion dollar deal.[3] In 2010-2011, Rompetrol was established in Turkey (RG Petrol A.S.). The Petromidia refinery modernization process was completed in 2012 following an investment of US$380 million. A new filling station concept was launched in 2013.

In 2014, the Rompetrol Group N.V. was renamed into KMG International N.V. as part of a strategy to promote the brand KazMunayGas. Although the name was changed into KMG International, the Rompetrol brand continues to be used in the distribution segment of the entire company. The company's retail network that operates under the “Rompetrol” brand incorporates over 1,100 fuel distribution points in Romania, Georgia, Bulgaria, Moldova, in France and Spain, where the company operates also under Dyneff brand.

In 2015-2016, CEFC China Energy and KazMunayGaz agreed for CEFC China Energy to take over 51% stake in KMG International, the former Rompetrol Group, but by July 2018 the deal fell apart due to the difficult financial situation of the Chinese company.[4]

In May 2017, Rompetrol invested $10 millions to develop hybrid gas stations.[5]

OMV Petrom S.A. is a Romanian integrated oil company, controlled by Austria's OMV. It is one of the largest corporations in Romania and the largest oil and gas producer in Southeast Europe. Since 2004 it is a subsidiary of OMV.

FROM LYONS TO JAGUAR

In 1922, a gentleman named William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company. A few years later, he built his first car, the SS1. Then in 1935, he introduced a breakthrough – the SS Jaguar – and a star was born. His company quickly became famous with the Jaguar line, which were both visually stunning and technically ground-breaking. The C-type, D-Type and E-type models paved the way for the current models. The rest, as they say, is history.

Ion Suruceanu was born in the village of Suruceni, Ialoveni District, of Moldova.

He started his singing career in 1968 as a solo singer in the ensemble "Noroc" where he sang until 1970. In 1978-79 Suruceanu sang for the ensemble "Bucuria". In 1981, he finished the Chişinău Music school where he learned to play bassoon and piano.

From the mid 80s Suruceanu became one of Moldova's most famous singers whose fame spread outside the republic. He also performed Russian language songs such as "Nezabudka" (Forget-me-not) which Suruceanu sang at the final of Song of the Year festival in 1989. During this period 1986-1993, he was also performing with the group "Real". Since 1982, his constant composer was Ian Raiburg.

From 1994 to 1998, Suruceanu was a parliamentarian in the Moldovan parliament where he was a deputy chairman of the committee for culture, science, education, and media. He lives in Chişinău.

Sofiya Rotaru was born on August 7, 1947 in Marshintsy, Novoselitskiy region, Chernovitskiy oblast, USSR [now Ukraine].

The story of the Fat Monks

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a group of peaceful, young, and hungry monks. Their sanctuary was surrounded by many tall mountains of different shapes and textures and it was usually cold all year round.

On an extremely cold winter’s night, there was a blizzard that brought echoes of sound down the mountain to where the monks were gathered around a fire. They heard the noise of the echoes and wondered what it could be, so much so, that they decided to plan a journey to see what was up there. Together they tried to decide who would go, but because everyone wanted to… They all went.

Not long after every monk packed up his things, they started their journey up the mountain. After many hours, much climbing, and lots of energy, they made it to the top of the mountain. In the distance they could see better where the sound was coming from… a familiar sight. “It’s a monastery”, one of the monks said. The other monks nodded in agreement and they all continued marching toward the monastery, joyfully.

When they reached the front entrance, one of the monks bravely knocked on the front door and a moment after, the Monastery Head Monk named Anatoly Yakovenko opened. Anatoly could notice that the monks had been through a long and tiring journey to get there, so he invited them in for an all-you-can-eat buffet, every day, for as long as they wanted to stay. This taught them the Zen way and it is safe to assume, that they’re still there.
