In this Phase I effort, Zeteo will develop over-the-ear and in-ear canine hearing protection device prototypes. These devices will combine passive hearing protection with active noise cancelation. The devices will also have a communication channel to allow the handler to communicate with the dog. A trade-off analysis will be conducted to develop a set of design requirements. These requirements will be used to design an over-ear and in-ear design that is capable of dealing with the challenges of the military noise and communication environments. Two prototype systems with user interface will be built based on these designs. The system performance will be optimized during Phase I. The performance of Zeteo's hearing protection systems will be enhanced during the Phase I option. Advanced control strategies will be tested and two additional prototypes will be produced in the option period.
