WormBase

WormBase

A database dedicated to the genetics, genomics, and biology of Caenorhabditis elegans (roundworms) and related nematodes. It was founded in 2000 in the United Kingdom.

WormBase is an online platform for researchers and is intended to provide them with up-to-date scientific literature and insights into roundworms. It contains the genetic sequence of the species as well as experimental results with annotated views of the genome. The database targets fundamental scientific research, biological research, and parasitic worm research.

Project

Users can create a username and password in order to access the database in a web browser. The database contains functions such as user-directed submission of data, genomic data curation and presentation, various query tools, and data displays. On the homepage of the website, users can find roundworm news, engage in discussions in the community forum, view gene name changes, and find information about roundworm research meetings occurring globally. Registered users of the database have access to functions such as "My Library", which allows for them to save scientific articles which are relevant or interesting to them, and "My Favorites", which enables users to organize their top findings from the site.
