Boletus boletus (lat. Lycium barbarum) is a shrub that is widespread in China, Tibet and other countries of East Asia. It is also known as Chinese wolfberry.
The bush of the wolfberry-boletus can reach a height of up to 3 meters, but more often grows up to 1.5 meters. It has flexible branches and narrow green leaves. Flowering begins in May or June, and fruits appear in August and September.
The fruits of the wolfberry-boletus are red berries, shaped like a lionfish. They have a sweet taste and are used in Chinese cuisine as an addition to meat dishes, soups, salads and desserts. In addition, the berries of this plant are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine, as they contain many beneficial substances, including antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
