The VTC Seed Fund is a venture capital fund. VTC Seed Fund is focused on seed and pre-seed investments in high growth potential companies in the greater Roanoke and Blacksburg region or in the Virginia Tech and Carilion ecosystem. VTC Seed Fund is funded primarily by the Virginia Tech Foundation and Carilion Clinic.
The VTC Seed Fund looks to invest between $100,000 to $150,000 initially, and prefer investments with angels or other institutional investors for equity or convertible debt. For their initial investment, the VTC Seed Fund looks for companies post proof of concept, with either technology VTC feels is innovative or else with intellectual property rights, an executable business model with established product and market fit and a tangible exit pathway. They are sector agnostic and look only for companies exhibiting the potential for high growth.
The VTC Seed Fund was raised at $7 million in 2018. In September 2019, they joined their first round, investing in Veralox Therapeutics during Veralox's Seed round which raised $5.4 million. The VTC Seed Fund co-led the round with their sister fund, the VTC Innovation Fund, and with Sanofi Ventures.
