Shanghai Zhongxi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., or Shanghai Zhongxi Pharmaceutical Factory, is a pharmaceutical company manufacturing medicine. In particular anti-malaria medicines, including Chloroquine Phosphate Tablets, Primaquine Phosphate Tablets and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate Tablets.
The company is approved to be a cooperative partner of China CDC (Chinese Center of Disease Control and Prevention) and has become one of the main anti-malarial medicines suppliers for the Chinese Global Fund project.
As of February 2020, drugs produced by Shanghai Zhongxi Pharmaceutical, Shanghai Ziyuan Pharmaceutical, and Wuhan Wuyao Pharmaceutical are being used for clinical trials as candidates to treat coronavirus. Both Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, that act as Endosomal acidification fusion inhibitors, are part of at least 10 clinical trials.
