Robert S. Mulliken

Robert S. Mulliken was born on June 7, 1896, in Newburyport, Massachusetts . He was an American physicist and chemist who was educated at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago . Mulliken's doctoral advisor was William Draper Harkins , and he mentored doctoral student Leona Woods .

Mulliken was best known for his notable work, Molecular Orbital Theory . His significant contributions to the field of chemistry earned him the 1966 Nobel Prize in Chemistry . Mulliken passed away on October 31, 1986, in Arlington County, Virginia .
