Robert Reid was born in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, July 29, 1862.
He received his education at the art schools of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Students League in New York, and then at the Julian y Boulanger and Lefebvre Academy in Paris. His first paintings were portraits of French peasants created in Etaples, but later he became known primarily as monumental painting and stained glass design. Participated in the frescoing of the dome of the Liberal Arts Building at the World's Fair in Chicago. in 1893.
