ProdermIQ is a San Diego-based company that creates customized skincare product using analytical and personal data pertaining to the individual's microbiome. It was voted as one of CNBC's hottest start-ups of 2014. It also made the list for Global Entrepreneurship Week's 2014 list of innovative companies.
The company looks at an individual's environment, lifestyle choices, and biological data to determine what may be causing skin issues. It conducts biological tests by swabbing the skin and utilizing a SKINdex skin health measurement tool, a database which compares an individual's skin health to the overall healthy skin population. The consumer is given a digital skin profile which they can reference when purchasing new skincare products. The consumer can then try skin products that are specific to their skin conditions using this information.
In 2017, ProdermIQ partnered with Johnson & Johnson to expand their technology that uses an individual's microbiome and population data to determine the health of one's skin.
