Plant Meat Matters is a 4-year public private partnership project led by Wageningen University that launched in 2017.

Plant Meat Matters a public private partnership project led by Wageningen University in Wageningen, Netherlands. The project is a 4-year project that seeks to improve the understanding of plant-based meat ingredients/products, to improve plant-based meat production technologies, and to create a plant-based meat alternative that mimics steak in appearance and texture. The project officially began on January 1, 2017 and is scheduled to end on December 31, 2020. Plant Meat Matters is co-financed by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs with their Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation ‘Agri & Food’ program, and is registered under the contract number TKI-AF-16011.



Plant Meat Matters is analyzing to factors related to food production inefficiency for feeding a growing and affluent world population. They are researching how to create better meat analogues from plant based proteins and reduce the environmental of meat analogue products being sold on the market. 



Partners working with Plant meat Matters includes: The Vegetarian Butcher, Unilever, Givaudan, Ingredion, Meyn, Nutrition and Nature, DVS, Ingredion, and Avril.
