Nikolai Gogol (20 March 1809 - 21 February 1852) was a Russian writer and author known for his work as a novelist, playwright, historian, teacher, poet, prose, and dramaturge. Gogol was educated at Saint Petersburg State University.

Gogol used various pseudonyms such as N. N., В. Алов, Г. Янов, Н. Г., ОООО, and П. Глечик. Born in Velyki Sorochyntsi in the Russian Empire, he was the son of Vasyl Hohol-Yanovsky.

Nikolai Gogol's work included various genres: prose and drama (film and television). His notable works include "Dead Souls", "The Government Inspector", and "Taras Bulba".
