MoneyLion is a mobile banking platform for borrowing, saving, and investing.

Founded in 2013, MoneyLion is a mobile banking app which offers basic banking, wealth management and lending services.

MoneyLion's headquarters are in New York, and they have offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, San Francisco and Kuala Lumpur. Their services use AI and machine learning to deliver personalized money-saving recommendations to help people save money and improve their credit scores.

Most of MoneyLion's revenue comes from it's subscription services, which cost users $19.99 per month. Users can reduce the monthly fee by daily logins and other perks.


Core membership

This is free, comes with their fee-free checking account, a debit card, cashback rewards and their fee-free cash advances. There are no overdraft fees and no required minimum balance. The checking account is insured similar to a traditional checking account.

The core membership offers instant 0% APR cash advances of up to $250. There is cashback rewards on regular purchases and rewards for making on time payments. MoneyLion also offers free credit monitoring and SteadyIncome, which earns users a 2.56% annual return.

Credit builder plus membership

This membership includes the Core membership features, a monthly fee of 19.99, and access to credit builder loans of up to $500 dollars at %5.99 APR without a credit check. MoneyLion uses brokerage accounts as collateral on these loans, which MoneyLion says can be funded within fifteen seconds of an application.

Financial Heartbeat

This is MoneyLion's innovative financial health tracker. Through it, they track five key pillars: Save, Spend, Shield, Score and Strive. Save measures your personal savings and investments relative to your financial goals. Spend tracks your spending relative to savings and income. Shield lets you know coverage in case of emergencies. Score offers credit score monitoring and related advice. Strive provides inspiration for positive financial behaviors. MoneyLion also provides incentives for smart financial choices, such as maintaining positive bank balances or on-time credit payments.

Managed investing

MoneyLion will automatically invest $50 per month into an investment account on the users behalf. The user will be able to adjust their risk profile and MoneyLion will invest accordingly. Users cannot choose what to invest in and MoneyLion's investments are largely in Vanguards ETF's. This managed investing is available for both memberships. There are no management fees on this account.


Series A

In December of 2016 MoneyLion raised a $22.5 million. Led by Edison Partners, the round included FinTech Collective, Citizen.VC, Clocktower Technology Ventures, Montage Ventures, Broadhaven Capital Partners. As well, they secured $650 million in debt facilities from Macquarie Group.

Series B

MoneyLion concluded a $42 million round in January of 2018. Edison Partners led the round, which included FinTech Collective, Grupo Sura, Greenspring Associates, and Danhua Capial. This round brought Edison Partners total investment to $27 million.

Series C

In July 2019, MoneyLion raised $100 million in their Series C. The round was led by Greenspring Associates and Edison Partners and included MetaBank, FinTech Collective and Capital One.
