Mojaloop is an open-source payment platform designed as a mobile payment system to help serve underbanked markets. This system was developed by the Level One Project, the umbrella blockchain project created by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The project was developed as a reference model that is designed to work around barriers to digital financial services that can be utilized by organizations, banks, digital payment systems, governmental bodies, small businesses, mobile networks, and more.
The platform can be utilized as a means to lower transaction costs, implement interoperable payment APIs, modify internal systems, and help businesses operate with other payment providers. The platform was initially sponsored by organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, Coil, Google, ModusBox, Omidyar Network, and the Rockefeller Foundation. The platform can be viewed on Github. The organization also provides technical documents, specification documents, and business documents on their website.
