The raised $850 million includes the management fees of Mithril Capital Management. The biggest investor of Mithril Capital Management's second venture fund was the co-founder of Mithril Capital Management, Peter Theil.
Since raising their second venture fund, Mithril Capital Management has been criticized for charging too much for management fees and taking too long to make investments with the capital they are holding in their second venture fund. The criticism lead to the firm discussing its business with the FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The co-founder of Mithril Capital Management, Ajay Gopal, says he will not change the investment strategy of the firm based on criticisms surrounding the management fees or the time it takes to invest its money:
When you build a firm, you're building a firm to make good choices over a long period of time. Every investment that we've made in the last year, for example, the new ones were years of work.
