Meteor (company)

A company that participated in the S11 cohort of Y Combinator. Created the Meteor.js and Apollo GraphQL frameworks.

Meteor Development Group (MDG) is a company founded by Geoff Schmidt and Matt DeBergalis.

The company is behind the Meteor.js framework, a full-stack JavaScript framework, which got famous for its ease, accounts system and real-time functionality. Many prominent JavaScript community members started their career with Meteor. Other projects like Chromatic, turned into Storybooks.

For revenue the company developed Galaxy hosting services which offer an easy deployment and management of Meteor applications.

In 2016 MDG started working on Apollo, a GraphQL implementation. This turned out to be more popular than Meteor at the time and by 2019 majority of the company resources were focused on Apollo. This lead to Meteor and Galaxy being sold to Tiny Capital in October 2019.
