Max Hodak is an American entrepreneur and technologist who is currently the president and co-founder of Neuralink, and the founder and former CEO of Transcriptic and myFit.

Education

Duke University

From 2007 to 2012 Max Hodak attended Duke University where he successfully graduated with a bachelors of science in engineering degree in biomedical engineering. During his time at Duke University Hodak worked as a research assistant from February 2008 to May 2012 (4 years and 4 months) in the Duke Medical Center under the supervision of Miguel Nicolelis where he assisted the building of brain-machine interfaces for Rhesus monkeys. When commenting on his time at Duke University, Hodak told reporters about two people he met at Duke that he attributes his success to by saying:

There were two people that I met in North Carolina who really opened a lot of doors. And a lot of that was luck. And the way I would look at that now is looking at it in terms of surface area. You definitely want to have a large surface area for exposure so people can find you.

Entrepreneurship

myFit

In January 2008 Max Hodak founded a company called myFit that focused on creating software capable of forecasting the likelihood of high school students being accepted into universities. The company successfully raised a series A funding round and was bought out by Naviance in October of 2010. 

Transcriptic

In February 2012 Max Hodak founded Transcriptic, a company focused on creating a robotic cloud laboratory for biology. The company was headquartered in Menlo Park, California and designed, built, owned, and operated automated infrastructure for molecular and cell biology laboratory research. The companies infrastructure was remotely accessible online for researchers looking to remotely operate the companies equipment through their web browser. Max Hodak left Transcriptic in November 2017 to become the co-founder and president of Neuralink.

Neuralink

In 2016 Max Hodak co-founded the nanobiotechnology company, Nerualink, with Elon Musk, Tim Hanson, Tim Gardner, Vanessa Tolosa, Ben Rapoport, Paul Merolla, Dongjin Seo, and Phillip Sabes. Neuralink is working to Hadok is currently serving as the president of Neuralink. Hodak told reporters he was originally skeptical about the potential of technologies in development by Neuralink, but was convinced of the companies potential by Elon Musk.
