Mark Edward Fischbach (born June 28, 1989, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA) is an American video blogger and creator of the YouTube channel of the same name (alias Markiplier).

Mark as a child

His father was German and in the military, and his mother was Korean, whom they met when her father was sent to South Korea. As of 2021, he is 32 years old.

Markiplier's early life is filled with tragedy when, at a tender age, his parents separated and he was left to live with his father. His father remarried and her stepmother was always kind to him. He always wanted to be a YouTuber, but his father's precarious profession created financial hardship for the family and he had to go to college to get his degree. His father passed away when he was halfway through graduation. Father's last words were: "I love you so much." A sudden death in the family shocked Markiplier, who lost his only close friend and family member. If that wasn't enough, he had to live with his mom, who kicked him out after a minor fight, and he had to live with his girlfriend. She also left him, and at that time he was diagnosed with a tumor and had to undergo surgery.

During his stay in the hospital, he had ample time for introspection. And then it was decided that he would not compromise with passion. He continued to study and make videos, and launched a new channel called Markiplier, which means Mark Multiply. He dropped out when he was only 2 years away from graduation.

Mark started his YouTube channel "Markiplier" in 2012 as a young child, and by the time he was at the University of Cincinnati, he had dropped out to pursue his YouTube career. At first, Mark intended to post sketch comedies and other comedy videos on his channel. However, he soon switched to adding game videos to his YouTube mix.

Mark is known for his walkthrough videos for indie and horror video games such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Slender: The Eight Pages, and Surgeon Simulator.

He collaborates with other popular YouTube stars such as Crankgameplays, Jacksepticeye, LordMinion777, Muyskerm, PewDiePie, Matthias, Game Grumps and more. One of these YouTube stars, LixianTV, served as Mark's editor.

Mark also hosts a number of charity live streams on his channel to raise money for causes that matter to him. He will be playing games on these live streams, collecting donations for various charities and organizations. In the past, these organizations have included the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, and the Animal Best Friends Society. According to Mark, by 2018, he and his viewers had raised over $3 million for various charities.
