Lyoto Machida

Brazilian mixed martial artist

Japanese-Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter who competes in Bellator MMA. He is a former UFC light heavyweight champion. He has many wins over famous fighters: B.J. Penn, Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, Randy Couture and Mauricio Rua. The son of a Japanese Shotokan master, Machida uses a distinctive style that involves a broad Shotokan stance and a fast movement strategy.

Early years Machida was born in Salvador, the son of Yoshizo Machida, head of the Brazilian branch of the Japanese Shotokan Karate Association, and Ana Claudia, a Brazilian woman. Growing up in Belém, Lyoto began practicing karate at the age of three and by the age of thirteen had earned his black belt.
UFC debut Machida made his UFC debut in the UFC 67 prelims against Sam Hodger and won by unanimous decision.
Bantamweight Championship. Machida faces Rashad Evans in his next fight at UFC 98. In that fight, Lyoto also wins by knockout, inflicting the first loss of Evans' career, thus continuing his unbeaten streak and becoming the UFC Bantamweight Champion.
