Lioness is a media company, publisher, and online storytelling platform with the stated mission of "bringing forward stories about encounters with power....[and] the interplay of those who have power and those who don’t." Lioness was founded in 2019 by Ariella Steinhorn, who serves as CEO, and is co-operated by Amber Scorah, who serves as president.
Lioness accepts submissions of stories from the public, investigates and vets these submissions, and publishes the stories via its website. Lioness reports on stories involving tech, whistleblowing, corruption, sexual abuse and harassment, cover-ups, and corporate fraud. Lioness focuses specifically on stories that despite being vetted, have not been reported publicly due to entrenched power, money, non-disclosure agreements, legal threats, or the inability of people with stories to best to connect with the media. Lioness also operates an online job board for select, vetted employers to advertise job listings to its audience.
Lioness uses very little advertising and no search engine optimization, relying on word-of-mouth reputation that leads people with stories to make submissions. To support its reporting, Lioness accepts donations via Patreon, as well as Bitcoin and Ethereum crypto donations.
