Article

At Leo Cancer Care we believe that cancer patients deserve the best from their treatment both in terms of clinical outcomes but also patient experience. We also believe that hospitals deserve to be able to provide this level of care to their patients regardless of their geographical location.

Driven by these beliefs, and by research from the MD AndersonLeo Cancer Centre, weCare areis developing upright radiotherapy devices. They believe it is clinically advantageous to capture the clinical advantages of treatingtreat patients upright. whilstThe reducingdevices may also reduce costs and machine size in the X-Ray market but more significantly inand the Proton market.

...

Leo Cancer Care is developing a full radiotherapy treatment device, Ruby, to revolutionise the way thattreat cancer patients are treated today. Current industry practice is to position a patient horizontally on their back and to rotate a six tonne machine around them to deliver radiation from different angles to sub-millimetre accuracy.

Research from the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston has shown that treatment efficacy is improved by treating patients in the upright position rather than horizontally. The Leo Cancer Care engineering team has also demonstrated that by keeping the radiation fixed and instead rotating the patient, the size and cost associated with these world leading treatments can be reduced by a factor of two.

Leo Cancer Care are combining these two facts to introduce Ruby, set to offer the best clinical radiotherapy treatments at a fraction of the cost and footprint.
