The company's flagship product is young jackfruit, which has a naturally meat-like texture that can be prepared as a plant-based alternative to poultry, pork, and seafood. Karana is focused on jackfruit due to the crop's net improvement over meat across environmental impact, nutrition, and smallholder farmer income. Jackfruit can be cultivated as an organic polyculture crop that requires little water and land, and is resistant to drought and pests. As a natural whole plant ingredient, jackfruit has a low Glycemic Index and contains a number of healthy nutrients including fiber, magnesium, potassium, vitamins and carbohdyrates . Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world with an annual yield of 40-50 tons per hectare, and has been identified as a crop with potential to help address food security issues and improve farmer incomes .
