Country in western Asia

Israel is a country established by a United Nations (UN) resolution in 1948, in a partitioning of the Palestine territory previously occupied by the United Kingdom.

The Israeli government is a Parliamentary system, where people vote for parties, and parties receive seats based on what percent of the popular vote they receive. As of 2019, the cutoff for a party to receive seats in the government was 3.25%. After an election, the parties negotiate with each other to form a coalition of parties with a majority of the seats. Once a coalition is formed, the parties in the coalition choose a prime minister.

The 2019 population estimate is 9,025,000, and the GDP is $390.7 billion ($43,199 per capita).

The official language is Hebrew. English, Arabic, Russian, French, Amharic, and German are also each spoken by 100,000 or more people in the country.

By ethnicity, 74.5% of the population is Jewish and 20.9% is Arab.

Friends of the Earth International condemns Israel's move to forcefully annex significant parts of the occupied Palestinian territories. The forced annexation plan would control Palestinian lands and natural resources, and isolate Palestinian communities in the governorates of the occupied West Bank. It would also undermine and violate most importantly the Geneva Conventions and other international laws. This annexation plan would mean that Israel would illegally acquire more than 34...
