Involt is developing next-generation batteries using ultracapacitor technology to improve energy infrastructure at the grid level. Ultracapacitors store charge when electrolyte ions adhere to electrode surfaces. Unlike conventional batteries ultracapacitors do not use chemical reactionschemical reactions. These devices also charge faster, are made with environmentally friendly materials like activated carbon and can be recharged more than 100,000 times without loss of performance. A major drawback is that ultracapacitors hold less energy per unit of weight compared with chemical batteries. Involt is using advanced carbon materials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene in their research and development.

Involt is making supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, smaller and more practical to potentially replace batteries, which have short life spans and create hazardous chemical wastechemical waste, with a renewable energy source. Their technology uses advanced carbons, high-voltage electrolytes and battery design.
