The International Rice Research Institute mission is to abolish hunger and poverty of people that depend on rice-based- food systems. Their goal is to improve the welfare of environment, rice farmers and consumers through scientific innovation and deep research.

Asia is the predominant supplier and consumer of rice around the world. The International Rice Research Institute is the global key for disseminating and developing resilient and high-yielding varieties of rice.

In Africa about 10 million hectares are being used for rice production even though it has over 130 million hectares inland that is suitable for rice farming. IRRI focus on deploying and developing locally-adapted and high-yielding rice varieties. It aim to boost rice sector to reduce Africa’s reliance on rice imports.
