Howie Liu is an entrepreneur known for being the founder and CEO of Airtable and co-founder of Etacts. Liu was born in College Station, Texas in 1989 to Korean parents that immigrated to the United States from China.
In January 2013 Howie Liu co-founded founded Airtable with Andrew Ofstad, and Emmett Nicholas, and became the companies CEO. Liu, Ofstad and Nicholas founded Airtable with the intentions of creating a spreadsheet that worked like a database. Liu made the following comment when explaining his plans for Airtable in 2018 by saying:
People think we’re building an Excel or Google Sheets replacement, but we’re out to build the next Microsoft or Apple. This is a $100 billion-plus revenue opportunity.
In February 2010 Howie Liu co-founded Etacts with Even Beard. The company was founded to create CRM tools for users to stay in touch with other people in their address books. Liu left Etacts in January 2011 to begin working on the CRM product for Salesforce.
From January 2011 to February 2012 (1 year), Howie Liu worked in the products department of Salesforce. During his time at Salesforce Liu was the leader of the companies CRM product.
From January 2008 to May 2009 (1 year and 5 months), Howie Liu began working for Duke University on computational airfoil design for an independent research project. During his time working on computational airfoil design, Liu used genetic algorithms and neural nets to help design airfoils computationally.
In 2005 Howie Liu began studying mechanical engineering and public policy at Duke University at the age of 16. He Graduated Duke University in 2009 with a degree in both mechanical engineering and public policy.
On May 1, 2019 Howie Liu participated in the $5 million seed round raised by Golden.
