Hermann Burmeister

Hermann Burmeister (born January 15, 1807, in Stralsund – died May 2, 1892, in Buenos Aires) was a multifaceted individual who held various roles throughout his life. He was a citizen of Swedish Pomerania, Prussia, Confederation of the Rhine, German Confederation, and Argentina.

He received his education at Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Greifswald. Over the span of his career, Burmeister worked as a curator, geographer, geologist, physician, politician, and explorer.
